Man made fiber of synthetic fiber is the most used materials for fabric manufacturing and it is highly likely to become more popular in the near future. But this man-made fiber was way behind in 1990s. At that moment synthetic fiber accounted for very less and total valuation was 100 million dollars. Synthetic fabric has a very good connection with Bangladeshi RMG sector and they are highly likely to support the growth of Bangladesh in the international market.
When Bangladesh is the fastest growing garments manufacturer in the world, synthetic fabric is becoming popular in the RMG sector every day. It is believed that manmade fibers are the future of textile and garments sector because they are safe and can be made out of a lot of waste materials. Though Bangladesh is not that significant synthetic fiber manufacturer in the world but Bangladesh is using a lot of manmade fibers and fabrics. Synthetic fabric sourcing is rising rapidly from Bangladeshi garments and textile industry due to the global demand. The demand for synthetic fabrics is rising and online platforms have become largest sourcing option. Since this has become a viable option for business people fabric manufacturers are listing their products on online B2B networks so that they can be found easily. On all the online platforms along with trading agencies are focused to Bangladesh because they are the second largest apparel manufactures in the world. And Bangladesh is also the second largest synthetic fiber importer in the world.
What is synthetic Fabric?
Now we should know something about synthetic fabric. What are they made of and how they function, right?
Synthetic fabric is a type of fabric made of man-made fibers. Synthetic fibers are manufactured with chemical synthesis and they are opposite to natural fibers that humans get from living organisms with little or no chemical changes. It takes immense effort to make Synthetic fibers but fabric manufacturing is not that tough when your fiber is ready. They are the result of hard work and extensive research of scientists which are developed with a mix or natural or non-mix of natural materials. Partially, these fibers are called artificial fibers also and can be made in many different standards. Particularly, most of the fibers are manufactured from plant-derived cellulose and are thus semisynthetic. On the other hand, some are totally synthetic, being made from waste materials like plastic and other things including limestone, water, petroleum, and even coal. There are various types of synthetic fibers and all of them are helping this nation to build more progressive fashion industry. It is also believed that synthetic fibers made from the waste and collected fashion materials are somewhat the most sustainable solution for the ever changing and vulnerable environment.
Types of Synthetic Fabrics
Talking about synthetic fabrics, there are many types of synthetic fibers and fabrics and they are being widely used in the Bangladeshi garments and textile industry. Carbon fibers, Kevlar, Spandex, Polyester, Nylon, Acrylics, Rayon, Nomex are some of the most popular manmade fibers. Every year new fibers are being developed and the variation of new fabrics are getting more and more. Scientists are working hard to manufacture synthetic fibers from many different substances. Waste plastics are the most used materials those are being turned into synthetic fibers. Most of the synthetic fabrics are highly durable and comfortable and they are being used for that consistently. Sportswear industry is the largest consumer of synthetic fabrics and all the other fashion sections are also moving forward to man-made fibers. Now a days, due to sustainability movement, plastic bottles are being collected. Recycling is the most viable solution and synthetic fiber made fabrics from recycled products are the future of the industry. There are many benefits and sustainability and reusing waste plastic bottles are most important concept of the industry.
Popularity of Synthetic Fiber in Bangladesh
Not to mention that Bangladesh is the second largest apparel exporter in the world and they are the second largest importer of synthetic fabrics. Polyester, Viscose, synthetic silk, rayon etc. are some of the most imported synthetic fabrics in Bangladesh.
Recent statistics says, the importance of synthetic fibers such as polyester staple, viscose, and Tencel are increasing as a substitute for cotton. Because of the rising demand in global fashion trend man-made fiber are taking control of the Bangladeshi RMG sector.
Bangladesh imported 78,208 tons of polyester staple fiber in 2016 which 11.39% higher than previous year. In 2015 and estimated, 70,209 tons of polyester was imported from different countries according to data from Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA).
Though, previous year viscose fabric went down in import. Yet it was recorded at 29,146 tons in 2016 which was 29,538 tons in 2015. Along with these fibers Bangladeshi garments industry is has been sourcing many other synthetic fibers for keeping its growth high including some other fibers. As the industry is progressing, the demand for synthetic fiber and fabrics are also growing. Besides the demand for synthetic fabrics clothing are also growing in rapid speed. As reported, the growth of the fabrics is 8% per annum and it can increase even further.
There is no doubt that Bangladesh is the most progressive apparel manufactures in the world and its RMG sector needs massive amount of the synthetic fabrics every year. The future of the synthetic fiber is getting popular in Bangladeshi RMG and textile sector and it is believed that it will take control of the natural fiber soon. As the demand goes high Bangladesh starts sourcing synthetic fibers more from many different countries. Though Bangladesh is not the largest synthetic fabric importer like China, Vietnam and Germany but Bangladesh is growing continuously and expected to become the largest synthetic fabric importer in the world. They are also making synthetic fabrics to meet the whole demand of the nation’s RMG sector and we can definitely say that synthetic fiber has a bright future in Bangladesh.
